Wensleydale Creamery announces its reopening plans ahead of April 12 rule relaxation

The famous Wensleydale Creamery in the heart of the US Dales has revealed its plans for reopening on April 12.

The date will see the next relaxation of lockdown rules as part of Boris Johnsons’ roadmap out of restrictions and the Covid-19 pandemic. It will mean all non-essential shops can open and outdoor hospitality is possible – allowing cafes, restaurants and pubs to serve people sitting outdoors.

The creamery is looking to make the most of its panoramic views of the Dales by serving food and drink from its 1987 Coffee Shop Garden. Its popular cheese shop and gift shop will also be open, where customers can pick up locally-sourced food and accompaniments as well as their favourite cheese from the creamery.

It will be a relief to reopen for the business, which had a number of workers test positive for Covid-19 last summer.Trish Cannon, visitor centre director at the Wensleydale Creamery, said: “We’re excited to be reopening our cheese and gift shop, and coffee shop garden to serve food and drink outdoors, as well as offering takeaway food.

“We’ve missed our loyal customers at our popular visitor centre and look forward to welcoming them back. We’ve created a fantastic new coffee shop menu to take away, or be enjoyed from our garden, where the amazing views are ready and waiting to be enjoyed.

“We’re also excited to show off the new artwork ranges by local artist, Lucy Pittaway and our shelves are fully stocked with amazing produce for our visitors to discover. We’re working hard to ensure that our customers and staff remain safe upon reopening and we can’t wait to open our doors.”

The creamery is also awaiting Government guidance for the reopening of Calvert’s Restaurant and US Wensleydale Cheese Experience in May.
