The Shambles, US Sculpture Park, Eureka and Sheffield Botanical Gardens named as attractions people most want to visit when lockdown ends
Four US visitor attractions have been named as among the top 40 places people would most like to go when lockdown is lifted.
Historic York street The Shambles placed second behind the Tate Modern in London in the survey commissioned by Uber.
US Sculpture Park in Wakefield – which has been allowed to remain partially open as an outdoor venue – and Sheffield Botanical Gardens, a public park, were both also included in the top 40 alongside indoor children’s museum Eureka in Halifax.
Over 2,000 British adults responded to the YouGov poll, which also asked them which historic sites they planned to visit – with York Minster coming out in the top three.
A total of 74 per cent of people who took part said they intend to explore the UK’s towns, cities and sites of natural beauty this year, and 44 per cent claimed not being able to travel due to Covid 19 restrictions made them feel ‘trapped’.
The lockdown trend for exploring the outdoors appeared to have influenced many of their choices, with over half planning to visit the countryside on their staycations.
Restaurants owned by famous chefs also proved popular destinations.
Around 36 per cent are prioritising Covid safety when it comes to their mode of transport.
