Centre Stage – the last remaining space within Leeds's Majestic building – available to let

The last remaining space in Leeds’s Majestic building has been released to the market.

With the letting of three floors to Channel 4 for its new national headquarters and two floors to law firm Knights, the final space, to be known as Centre Stage is now up for grabs.

Encompassing both the ground and lower ground floor of the Majestic and providing some 17,000 sq ft of space it will be situated on both Wellington Street, opposite the City’s railway station, and Quebec Street.

Richard Baker, Head of Leasing at Rushbond which led the redevelopment of the building, said the floors would be able to accommodate a variety of uses, including creative productions and showrooms. The agencies leading the letting said there was nothing like the space available in Leeds at this time.

The Majestic has undergone a massive revamp.

He said: “This is an amazing opportunity for an occupier to showcase their business, placing them at the very centre stage not only of the Majestic but also of Leeds, as the City evolves and enhances its reputation as the key to the North.

“The Majestic is in effect a vertical campus of vibrant and progressive enterprises with the centre stage offering a unique chance to be a part of that special mix.

“The space provides endless scope with huge flexibility to accommodate a variety of uses, brand-conscious best-in-class workspace across all of its guises, as well as creative and production, showroom and display potential. We are looking towards ambitious and dynamic organisations who want to join the Majestic’s community within some of the City’s most distinctive space.”

The Majestic’s retained lettings agents are Knight Frank and JLL.

Eamonn Fox, partner at Knight Frank, said: “In terms of what’s currently on the market in Leeds, I can confidently say there is no other space like the Majestic available. The volume for the lower ground floor in particular is unparalleled, remembering that in its former life the huge restaurant there catered for some 1,800 people below the cinema’s massive 2,800 seater auditorium.

“The attention to detail and the digital infrastructure embedded into the Building are all remarkable. Centre Stage provides a particular opportunity for a single operator or a mix including those in the creative and tech sectors to benefit from the unique ecosystem that is being curated within the Majestic.”

The 66,000 sq. ft Grade A space, within Leeds’ City Square, has been one of the most eagerly anticipated developments in the City Region. The historic building has been the subject of a comprehensive redevelopment, with Rushbond appointing Sir Robert McAlpine as main contractor. The works saw the full restoration of the exterior, with sensitive interventions including additional new floors, and the creation of a new atrium and Palm Court space, celebrating the grand entrance and circulation areas of the cherished Leeds asset.

The Majestic was constructed in 1921 as a ‘super-cinema’, before adopting new leases of life as a bingo hall and then as the Majestyk nightclub. In its new form, it has come to be recognised as a focal point for the City and a beacon for the ambitious growth plans of the City.
